It's all very well having a website, but it's not much use unless people can find it. Increasing the visibility of a website on the search engines can dramatically improve the success of a business on the internet.
Search Engine optimisation is an integral part of producing a website that works effectively and should be considered from the outset. Winning business from the internet is the essense of a e-marketing, and therefore gaining traffic from the search engines is best not left as an after-thought.
An integral part of my internet philosophy is that a business website should provide the owner witha return on investment. Such a return on investment is normally dependent on acquiring new business via the internet.
If a potential customer was looking for a product or service offered by your business, how might they find it using a search engine? The search query is word or phrase used by the customer to find a product or service.
A search engine such as Google, MSN or Yahoo!, ranks webpages according to how it relates the relavance of the website compared to the search query.
Measuring Success
The extent of the success that can be achieved in terms of increase business should be measured against the cost of undertaking search engine optimisation work. It is possible to estimate the likelihood of achieving success for a given search term for a given website.
